This is arguably the most distinctive and classic of all the lowland species – in our opinion, no other species comes close. It’s famous for its upper pair of peristome ribs, which are hugely elongated, giving the appearance of fangs connected to the back of the pitcher lid. Sometimes nectar can be seen secreted from the tips of these fangs, which are used by the plant to attract termites, which are its favourite nocturnal prey. Its natural habitat is the steamy kerangas forests and peat swamps of Borneo. The lower pitchers differ from those of BE-3031 in that this item has an orange flush on a yellow background, whereas BE-3031 has a red flush on an orange background.Last returned:Jan 2026History:First introduced in about 2008.Origin:Horticultural, bred by Borneo Exotics. This item was chosen as the best out of an original selection of 24 clones produced from parent plants that were themselves raised from seed in our nurseries.Source:From a single carefully selected clone.Photo notes:Some photos shown here are habitat shots of plants that are very similar in both form and colouration to plants shipped. The last photos in the series show plants of typical sale sizes in order of size S, M & L (when available).

Climate:Lowland. We find it grows best between about 32 deg. C (90 deg. F) in the daytime, down to 24 deg. C (75 deg. F) at night, although it will tolerate temperatures outside this range.
Now even better! As of Jan 2025, the quality of all items grown in our indoor facilities has been further improved. This includes all items classified as 'lowland,' such as this one. Items in our indoor facilities are now grown under extremely hard conditions, with high light levels and have super-tough leaves, making them much easier to establish.
