Morphology

The plants are mostly hairless, though the undeveloped traps bear small brown hairs. They also feature dormant buds situated above each leaf.

Distribution & habitat

Ilocos Norte province, Luzon, Philippines, at an elevation of around 1200 m.

Ecology

It has been observed preying on ants, spiders, mosquito larvae, and roaches, often capturing them in stages of decomposition.

History & etymology

Discovered in April 2002 by ornithologist Herman Nuytemans, the specific epithet *aenigma* is Latin for 'enigma' or 'riddle,' referring to the species' unusual ecological preferences.
