This spectacular species is endemic to parts of North and West Sumatra and is unfortunately critically endangered in its natural habitat. We were therefore delighted when in 2022 we could finally offer it from a sustainable source and in significant numbers. It’s been recorded from habitat at altitudes ranging from sea level up to about 800m. Although technically a lowland species, we grow it successfully also as an intermediate highland species.Last returned:Jan 2026History:First introduced in Aug 2022.Origin:HorticulturalSource:A random selection from a large number of different clones.Photo notes:Photos are of juvenile pitcher of representative clones. The last photos in the series show typical sale plants of sizes Small, Medium & Large (when available).

Climate:Lowland. We find it grows best between about 32 deg. C (90 deg. F) in the daytime, down to 24 deg. C (75 deg. F) at night, although it will tolerate temperatures outside this range.
Now even better! As of Jan 2025, the quality of all items grown in our indoor facilities has been further improved. This includes all items classified as 'lowland,' such as this one. Items in our indoor facilities are now grown under extremely hard conditions, with high light levels and have super-tough leaves, making them much easier to establish.
