Description
Returning for Jan 2026 after one year!
This classic lowland species
is found across Borneo, Sumatra and Peninsular Malaysia. The upper pitchers are
very different in form from the lowers, and within the species itself, there is
a great deal of variability in the size, morphology and colouration of pitchers,
even across individuals within the same colony of plants. It hybridises
regularly in habitat with nearby species, includingN. gracilis, N. ampullaria, N. bicalcarataand
various forms ofN.
mirabilis, to name but a few. In any colony ofNepenthes rafflesiana, it’s
common to find hybrids, unless it’s very geographically isolated from other
species. Therefore, it’s unlikely that there is any such thing as “pure”Nepenthes rafflesiana, which may
explain the wide range of variability observed in habitat. This particular clone was originally selected for its nearly pure-white
pitchers and delicate pink wings. At one time we described it as “white” but
have since revised the description to “light speckled” because the pitchers can
become sparsely mottled with red flecks as shown here, but only if kept under very high light levels.History:First introduced in 2006.Origin:Horticultural, bred by Borneo Exotics, created in
2004 using parent plants which were themselves raised from seed in our
nurseries. Originally launched under BE-3141 as a random selection form three
different clones but, subsequently then reduced to one selected clone with our
variety ID# 0430-1.Source:From a single carefully selected clone.Photo notes:The nursery shots shown
here are of the same clone as plants shipped. The last photos in the series
show plants of typical sale sizes in order of size S, M & L (when
available).

Climate:Lowland. We find it grows best between about 32 deg. C (90 deg. F) in the daytime, down to 24 deg. C (75 deg. F) at night, although it will tolerate temperatures outside this range.
Now even better! As of Jan 2025, the quality of all items grown in our indoor facilities has been further improved. This includes all items classified as 'lowland,' such as this one. Items in our indoor facilities are now grown under extremely hard conditions, with high light levels and have super-tough leaves, making them much easier to establish.
