About

A notable and highly easterly endemic species of pitcher plant found only on the island of New Caledonia. It is recognized for its association with the mosquito *Tripteroides caledonicus*, which breeds within its pitchers.

Distribution & habitat

Endemic to the island of New Caledonia, found in shrublands or forests up to about 900 metres (3,000 ft) altitude.

Ecology

The pitchers are utilized by mosquitoes of the species *Tripteroides caledonicus* for breeding.

History & etymology

Named in honor of Eugène Vieillard, a collector of plants from New Caledonia and Tahiti who traveled between 1861 and 1867.
