History & etymology

The species name *Nepenthes ramispina* is derived from Latin, combining *ramus* meaning 'branch' and *spina* meaning 'spine' or 'spur'. Historically, it was once considered similar to *N. gracillima*, but subsequent studies have confirmed that the two species are readily distinguishable in their natural habitats.
