A distinctive tropical pitcher plant endemic to the Philippines, *Nepenthes manobo* is easily distinguished from related species by its unique leaf structure and the specific morphology of its pitchers.
Field notes
Morphology
The species has sessile leaves that clasp half the stem diameter with three nerves on either side. Lower pitchers are bulbous and ovate but cylindrical toward the opening, and upper pitchers feature a distinctive hip with an orbicular to ovate lid shape and short teeth-like projections on the inner peristome margin.
Distribution & habitat
Endemic to the Pantaron Range on the island of Mindanao, Philippines, at an elevation range of 1,000–1,020 m above sea level.
History & etymology
The specific epithet manobo was chosen to acknowledge the indigenous Manobo tribe, whose ancestral territory includes the Pantaron range.
